FOOD FOR THOUGHT
When it comes to food, German Fest festival goers are known for their culinary consumption. In some cases, one might say - it’s approaching Guinness Book of World Record’s proportions. When food tastes, as good as it does at Milwaukee’s German Fest, who can blame ‘em.
The following list shows various foods & amounts consumed during four-days of festivities each year:
- 20,000 bratwurst
- 20,000 pieces of torte and pastries
- 20,000 roast pork sandwiches
- 15,000 pieces of strudel
- 10,000 pounds of potatoes used in potato pancakes
- 10,000 pounds of potato salad
- 10,000 pounds of sauerkraut
- 9,000 dumplings
- 8,000 pounds of onions
- 5,000 pounds of coleslaw
- 5,000 chickens + 200 pigs for Spanferkel
So, how much food is that? Let’s do the math:
- If you stack end-to-end the 20,000 brats consumed, it stretches the length of eight Empire State Buildings! That’s 10,000 feet!
- Would you prefer a sports analogy? 10,000 feet of brats is like the length of 28 football fields.
- The proof is in the potato. The 20,000 lbs. of potatoes used in preparing pancakes and potato salad, as you know, is 10 tons of potatoes. Now if you then add five tons of sauerkraut + four tons of onions, which are all part of vital food groups eaten during German Fest, THAT = the start of tons of fun!
- Finally, combine the 35,000 servings of strudel, torte & pastries consumed each year at German Fest. That is enough to serve nearly 2 desserts to every resident of Germantown, Wisconsin or 1 helping to nearly every man, woman and child in New Berlin, Wisconsin! Who's hungry?
