EAT DRINK UND BE MERRIER!

Who's Hungry?

It is impossible to understand German Fest without indulging in a bit of prepared fresh daily German culinary creations. No need to search, they are featured throughout the German Fest grounds. As a result of this Fest Food Fact - “naschen” tends to become an art.

A tasty treat to try - Onion Kuchen, meaning “little cake.” It is similar to quiche und yes - German men do eat Onion Kuchen und a few other delights. Don’t leave German Fest without trying a “Currywurst!” This “long” bratwurst or pork sausage is curled & served on a stick with a decadent curry sauce, aka, “Saucisschen.” Try it! You’ll love it.

One look at stats and you’ll agree - the proof is in the pudding, better yet, potato pan cakes. Over the four day festival, five tons of potatoes are required to keep up with the demand for potato pancakes! More than 20,000 Usinger’s Brats are devoured by devoted German Fest Fans and don’t hold the sauerkraut ‘cause another 10,000 pounds of kraut is served. The sauerkraut is made with an honest-to-goodness old world double secret recipe but because we can trust anyone on this site, here are the ingredients:

  • Cabbage, then add…
  • Apple-wood bacon
  • Fresh cored whole apples
  • Brown sugar, onions and caraway seeds

Random thoughts on sweet eats.

If you can't find something sweet to eat - your taste buds are on strike! A plethora of delectable desserts came to German Fest last year, including Bavarian Chocolate Torte or Black Forest Torte. If you’re wondering - they’re made with multiple layers of chocolate sponge cake, cherries + whipped cream. Please don’t ask about calories, just enjoy! Another dessert to desire is known as “bee sting cake,” Bienenstich is a German dessert filled with vanilla custard & topped with honeyed almonds. German Folklore has it that, the cake earned its name from the honey topping. The baker who created the delight was stung while retrieving the needed honey! If your taste buds aren’t already screaming “feed us! feed us!” other desserts include Sachertorte, an Austrian chocolate cake, Napoleon Cake + German Chocolate Torte. Choose from 35,000 pieces of pastry, torte, strudel + kuchen.
